Subs dancing when car is running

Greetings,

I have 2 12" pioneer premier subs in the same box. Connected to that is a PDX-1.1000 amp. The speakers are hooked up one to each "channel." (There are two outputs on the amp but it says it's a mono amp). The head unit is stock.

The RCAs are running separate from the power wires.

Everything works pretty well while the engine is not running; however, when the vehicle is running, both subs dance (vibrate noticeably).

Could someone point me in the right direction?

I have checked the ground and made sure the power wires are separate from the shielded RCAs.

I'm on vacation but I will try to get some photos and videos.

That amp doesnt have two channels. it has two hook ups to make it easier to wire. your gain is to high like everyother person that has a amp/sub problem new to this forum. Also turn bass boost off and set bass to 0 on the HU.

I could be wrong but that is normally the problem

Oh and subs do vibrate, thats what they do!

This is engine noise for sure. Perhaps I need a choke coil?

I have some experience with subs and amps. Everything is tuned pretty well, including the gain on the and the bass on the head unit.

Thanks for bearing with me....

The RCAs are quality and are shielded. The run separately from the power wires. The HU is a stock chevy head unit.

Err.... I'm sorry. Please pardon my ignorance. What is a LOC? On the same topic, what is a processor?

Oh, Line output converter. Yes. That.

Also, I should note that when the engine is running and the subs are doin their dance with the radio off, they stop if I unplug the RCAs from the amp.

Factory headunits never works 100% well with aftermarket equipment, personally I would go the distance and replace the factory radio instead of using a line-level converter because they're crap and when they do go bad it'll usually take the amp down with it.

The HU needs to stay. It controls the security and other things as well. I'll have to deal with what I have.

Good ole Future shop installed them. Now I just have to chase the cables and find the LOCs //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Depending on what type of car and what type of factory sound system, iPod Integration for your car and More by Pac-Audio - Connecting you to the future may have the correct modules so you can ADD two sets of preamp outputs from the factory headunit. I dealt with my car's security/databus issue and I ended up relocating the factory headunit into the trunk because my car will do all kinds of weird things if I remove the factory radio from the car.

Get a portable discman or mp3 player, get a 3.5mm to RCA adapter, hook them up to the amp's inputs and jump the remote turn-on wire from 12v power and listen to the music and the sub's movement. If it doesn't "dance" then your factory headunit, the LOC or both is causing your problem.

SO I found the bloody LOC and it's clamped onto wires that go into a factory amp to drive the bose system in the truck. It's a Silverado 2500 HD. I don't know what wires do what on that factory amp but like I mentioned, it does put out just fine when the engine is off.

The LOC is called a "Stinger SLOC" I don't like the looks of it because there are no adjustments on there that I can see.

I plugged my ipod into the RCAs and turned the engine on. The Subs did not dance but they performed very well. Based ont he previous comments, it's either the HU or the LOC.

Here is a quick picture of the connections. View attachment 26525664
