subs cutting in and out

Problem:Everything worked fine from tuesday until this afternoon. When i turn volume up subs stop hitting hard but still hit. When i turn the volume down they will start working again until i turn it up again.

i just got two vvx 10's. i have had them hooked up for 3 days. i am running 6 gauge wire to my amp. it is pioneer amp that only puts out 190@2 ohm by 2.(i know it is too small for subs, trying to get money together to get better amp) i know all wiring is good. only wire in question could be ground.(have ground connected to rear seat bracket, sanded paint off before bolting wire) What do i need to start checking.

11v with the car running? If so you need a new alt bud! If not you need a new battery!
11 volts is with car idling and subs playing. yes alt is 8 years old and battery is 2 or 3. probably need to replace both for sure. but is this causing my problem? everything worked fine for 2 days and wondering if amp just can not handle running the subs?

Ok first try revving the engine just a bit not a ton just hold something above idle see what it reads then(13.8-14.4 is good), also turn off the car and turn on the headlights for a few seconds, read the battery after turning them off(12.5-12.8 is good) if the battery is bad just replace it your alt is most likely fine but your battery sounds shot.

ok i just went and cleaned all of my connections and checked voltage again. (all voltage tests done at amp)

amp turned off and car at idle-13-14 volts

amp on with volume a little over 3/4 (was only at about 1/4 before) and car at idle- voltage dropping to 9 on bass hits(tested voltage at battery and stayed around 13 volts)

changed ground spot and retested at 3/4 volume and only dropping to barely below 12 volts. Everything seems to be working now.

battery turned out to be 4 years old so probably gonna replace. any suggestions?

I assume with the wattages you state, it is a A/B amp...heat during the day combined with weak connections make for way more heat that will make the amp cut in and out of protect....

Replace your battery with an AGM/deepcycle if possible. Preferably the biggest one you can fit under your hood. I would pick up a used battery off of here, you can get some decent deals. Just make sure the battery is resting pretty high (it should be resting around the 12.7-12.8 range). If you buy a used battery off of someone make sure to have them load test it first and give some proof that it's OK.

no laughing please but amp is pioneer 5300 there are a couple more letters to that model number just dont remember them off top of head

i am trying to save money to get better amp which leads to my next question

i have two vvx 10's thinking about getting the skar 800.1 amp i know i need to upgrade wire to at least 4 gauge.

question is- if i use above mentioned battery do i also need to change alt. stock alt is 85 amp.

A what? Skar 800.1? you gotta be kidding me...on 2 VVX10's?...geez brother..you can get an American Bass VFL100.1 1500 watt amp for the same $300 that would be perfect for those subs!..I just saw a VFL 150 in the classifieds for 300. And as far as wire upgrade, at least 4ga to the Skar and if you add another battery, 2 ga minimum. Same with the Big 3; 2 gauge min.

the only reason i was thinking going with the skar was because

1:I am a noob and don't know what products these days are good

2:Heard alot of stuff about skar(good and bad) and figured i would just give it a shot

3:afraid of putting full power to the subs and messing them up. Drive about an hour and a half every day. Didn't know if it would be good for them.

So all help is appreciated
