Sub suggestions

I am looking into putting a sub into my car and when it comes to car audio I don't have any knowledge about what I should do.

I'd like to spend less than $250 on the sub(s). I've searched around and this Lanzar OPTI1232D 12" Subwoofer Dual 2 Ohm VC | 293-481 looks pretty nice. Does anyone have any feedback on these? Any other recommendations? I'm not set on a size either.

My friend bought one of these JL Audio CP212-W0v3 BassWedge™ slot-ported enclosure with two 12" W0v3 subwoofers at Crutchfield.com and using that as a basis of comparison, I'd like something louder.

I have about 2 cubic feet of space available to build an enclosure. Which I don't know if I should be building a ported or a sealed box. I listen to mostly rock with some rap as well. How much of a difference does the box type make? Does a ported box make it significantly louder? Does a sealed box make it significantly tighter?

Thanks in advance.

XY Borg, if you are wanting something "loud" then you will want to use a ported enclosure.

As for the lanzar sub you linked, from what I've seen you can find a much better. There are plenty of subs that will fall into your price range. We offer this one GZRW 12D4 plus many others.

I would also recommend that you look in the classified section, lots of stuff for sale in them.

We also have a pre built, loaded enclosure in there.

There are a lot of comparison threads for 12" subs in this forum. you are likely to hear SSA, Sundown, Obsidian, Soundqubed and other names for strong suggestions.

As far as power goes I'll be buying an amp to match the sub, and I'd like to spend around the same money on the amp as I do on the sub.

^^^^^ that sub is smexy!!!!! would highly recommend from what ive seen and heard. good luck op.

The GZRW 12 is a straight beast of a sub. It's priced less than a lot of quality 500-600 watt subs and is rated at 800. I have a sneaking suspicion that 2K wouldn't break it. Maybe I'll try that pretty soon...
