Sub problem

I just bought a cerwin VegaVMAX 122 (dual 2) and when I hook it up the speaker just excurts fully one way or the other (looks like the cone is trying to escape). Doesn't matter if I run it to one coil or the other, series or parallel. Is the sub blown already? The amp is an Orion Xtreme 400...I tried it bridged and on one channel and the result is the same.

I'd be more worried about your amplifier.

If you're trying to wire it to 4ohms bridged, You need to join the coils together. You need to join The Positive from coil one to the Negative on coil two. Hook the leads from your amplifier up to the remaining two terminals(positive to positive, negative to negative) for a 4ohm load.

Er, it sounds like your amp has a feedback loop, or a grounding issue.

Have you tested the amp on another speak?

If your amp is causing the sub to jump out of its' skin like that, it's usually a signal or ground problem.

Well, when I tried to run it bridged, the fuses would blow???????

And when I hook up the wires to the sub, it always throws a spark. This sucks

Do you have the power and ground wires switched? I did that when I was a noob and it did the same things you're describing.

STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING!

YOU'RE GOING TO BLOW THE AMP!

Ok, now that I have your attention, your wiring has a problem. You need to immediately re-check every connection. You're going to do severe damage to your amp, or potentially start a fire or damage your electrical system.

If you want, PM me, or we can hop on xfire, and I can help you diagnose the problem. You're probably running a bad ground, reversed wires, or are feeding a ground loop into your RCA cable.

All of these are very bad things.

I think I blew the amp. N matter how many times I disconnect my system and hook it back up it does that stuff when I hook up the speakers.
