Sub Problem Solving

I'm at a loss. I cannot figure out the problem.

I have an Alpine W205 head unit with a JL 12W3v3 powered by an Alpine PDX 1.600. The setup was working then after a couple of days the sub produced no sound & the amp kept going into protect mode. No burned out fuses, no smoke, nothing. Just a pop from the sub when the headunit turned on....

Unhooked the amp and attached a different sub & the amp powered the sub without problem. A friend checked the sub and it checked out at 4ohms. Checked the sub by pushing the dust cap to see if there was scratching and none present.

Bottom line, no sense of resolution.

Any ideas? The "pop" is a mid/higher pitch pop. And again, happens once the headunit is started.

Any clarification is appreciated.
