sub playing the lows....???

I just installed a RE SE10 about a month ago. I have played it on a daily basis since the day it was installed, so it should be broken in for the most part by now. I have had around 750 on it since day one....on to my question....

Why is it that the sub will not move hardly at all when i play really low notes, say 10hz for example. I see vids online all the time with people playing low notes like that and they move a good amount. The SE has 18mm of excursion, and trust me it moves when playing music, and sounds very good doing it. See my sig for tuning and amp....

Can anyone shed some light on this? I know I won't be able to here it but it just looks cool.

thanks

because your box tuning is too high, or maybe 10hz is out of your amps operation range

edit: i would show vids of my subs excursion, but i have a still camera with shitty video features

because your box tuning is too high
If his box was tuned too high, he'd likely be complaining of the opposite problem - unloading because the driver is way below tuning and the port interaction has no longer any control over the cone whatsoever...but 10Hz is going to unload any bass reflex unless you're tuned in the teens...

I have run into this problem before with a high tuned box...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

You don't want the sub to play much lower than the tuning frequency. It'll damage the sub.

Once you get much lower, the sub loses all control and begins to act like it's not in an enclosure at all.

doesn't that mean the box is tuned too high? he is tuned to the 30's and your saying teens:confused:

edit: you have confused the shit out of me

If he's wanting to play infrasonic stuff regularly, yeah, 30Hz is way too high.

What I meant by that was by tuning lower the woofer would still be controlled, versus being over a full octave below tuning as it is right now.

But that'll introduce a massive hump in the frequency response, in a vehicle...not a very practical solution.

Tune in the teens if you want to hit 10hz, but the useable range will suffer.

We're mainly concerned with 25-80hz though, which is why most tune 28-35hz.

There is very little recorded information below 25hz.

Do you have a subsonic filter set?
my subsonic is set to 28.

The tuning of the box shouldn't have anything to do with the sub moving would it.

Wouldn't a person tune in the teens only to hear the 10hz tone? Because from what i understand about tuning a box is for a person to be able to hear a specific note from the sub....correct???

Ding ding.

Yes, it does.

The lower limit to human hearing is around 20Hz. So anything below that is going to be felt more than heard, yes. But I'm not sure what you mean by this. The idea of a ported enclosure is to increase efficiency at the expense of creating a peak around the tuning frequency...

Not exactly. The sub is going to always play a range of notes. The tuning frequency applies a peak to the response at (and around) that frequency.
