Sub output question

Any idea why an Infinity 1042w be (way) louder than an alpine 1042d in a .75 cu box with 350 w rms power?

Does it just take a whole lot more power to get any output out of a 1042d? The alpine is so quiet now that if I am driving down the road with the top down (the car is a convertible) I can't even hear the sub at all.

Thanks

Check your H.U. settings, the amp gains, is the box ported or sealed? Maybe try turning up the bass/sub settings on your head unit. Play around with the settings until it sounds good to you. It took me a few weeks to get my Type R sounding how I wanted it to.

The infinity might be more efficient and work better in that exact box. In other words 350 watts for the infinity could be enough for it to produce its max output where the Alpine might need 700 watts.

the new type r, which i have needs 2.3 cubic feet of ported box. It can get up to 1200watt rms all day, and after that for only short periods of time you can get 1200 or greater. The infinity is made for a 1.25 cubic foot box. I just had one and i sold them and i got this type R. I suggest talking to sprkman about making you a box for it. 250 shipped. Also his aim name is Speakerman525 just hit him up. You need a WAY BIGGER BOX!!!!

Sorry, I meant the new R version.
The box is to small, and the power is to little. The Infinity is more efficient (I say that loosely as I don't want to start an argument) And designed to work better on lower power in a smaller enclosure.

Where you are greatly under powering the type-r not allowing it to reach it's full potential. You are overpowering the Infinity. Allowing it to reach it's max potential and probably then some.

Giving the type-r a larger box and increasing the power will allow it to stomp on the infinity.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help everyone.

The specs say the optimimum sealed box is .65 cu for that sub. Thats why I figured the .75 would be fine, I figured wrong! What would you guys give it sealed?

HookMeUp: I am thinking about going ported on this sub (just to get more output), if I do I am going to have Speakerman design the box. He seems to know this sub very well and could probably do better than what WinISD could do. I would hate to go ported and lose a noticeable amount of accuracy, thats why I have been putting it off. Really if I could get 90% of the output the infinity gave me in a sealed box, I would be happy.

As far as more power I am really trying to avoid that. The install was fairly tough and my amps are hidden under the convertible top and are a very tight fit. If I put more power in I would have to totally rethink where my amps are positioned.

Doing a convertible install sucks.

Thanks

Hey man spkrman designs the best boxes for type r's i meen thats what he uses in competeition so he could design you a ncie box, just hit me up on aim - irishpub021 or hit me up with a pm and we can talk more

Why would anyone want to do that? lol.
Barjam, are you down firing the speaker enclosure?

Yes. I had to retrofit my box with "legs" to do this. My next box will have downfiring in the design. I don't have an SPL meter but I suspect I gained 1-2 db doing that.
