sub or amp or wires?

my friend has an alpine type r on a, don't laugh, jenseng amp i think. he's not heavy into car audio he just wanted some bass. but anyway, his amp/sub setup isn't working properly. the sub moves as if sound should be comin out of it, but most of the time no sound comes from it. the few times that it does produce sound it stops within 5 minutes.

any help?????
