Sub not loud

I have a Hifonics BXi2006d on my base 15" BTL. With bass eq at 0db, its not loud at all, but at like half way or all the way its loud as shit. I know you really shouldnt use bass boost or eq, but why isnt it ****ing loud with it at 0?

I did set my gain with a DMM. Not the bass eq though. How would you set that?

I would set it at 0 and leave it there. Don't need a DMM for that.

What test tone did you use to set the gain?

50hz 0dB. On 0 its not loud at all. I should have just kept my RLP with 600 watts. Because at 0 on my hifonics with a 15" BTL its just as loud. WTF.

ive always used 60hz 0db tones.

just turn on what youd normally turn on to get the rest of your system sounding right then set the gains..

Try using a -3db or -6dB tone. Same effect as bass boost, just across the spectrum rather than right at the center freq of the boost. Music never reaches the 0dB level you set your gain with. The difference between the max level of the music and the 0dB tone is power you will never get from the amp and output you will never get from the sub.

Somewhere in the region you plan on having the subs play. The freq isn't terribly important. Most folks use 50 or 60 hz.

Do you have low pre-outs? I know that with my hifonics amp I have the gain 3/4 up and BB about 1/2. U have to jack the bb up on those amps to get the desired voltage levels if you have a weak pre-outs.

You tell me how? I have the pioneer 2v preout and with the gains maxed it still takes about 6db of bass boost to get the desired voltage and it was measured using a dmm. So who's the idiot now? If you have weak preouts sometimes u have to bass boost especially to get power out of hifonics amps. I have my bass boost at 6db and it sounds very clean, no distortion. I just think everyone is scared to use bass boost because the idiots who blow their gear have their gains and bass boost maxed out. If you know what you are doing bass boost can help you get fuller sounding bass and gives you the flexibility to attenuate bass on the fly without having to mess with your headunit. Honestly that setup should be enough make you go deaf.
