Sub loses power after a few good hits

I have a 09 nissan versa and my system is down. I need to find the weak link. Amp has power and sub performs normally for the first few seconds and then it fades to almost nothing, and stays that way. At this time I can feel the sub getting some signal, just at a very low volume.

What could it be? These components are a few years old and had been installed in a few of my previous cars.

The fading leads me to think a couple things could be happening:

1st: Easiest is a bad ground. Recheck and make sure you have a solid ground

2nd: Not so good. Bad capacitor in the amplifier

also check voltage at amp when this happens....
