I agree on too many variables, but i dont think that the closer a sub is to you the louder it will be. When i had my explorer i messed around with alot of different box locations, and IMO the closer i moved the box the weaker the substage seamed.

Moving the sub away from a wall will remove the corner loading effect. The principle is similar to the whisper room effect.

Yes i know that, and the only other wall to set the box near is the windshield, so infact the further the box is away from you the more substage volume you will have

It basically comes down to wavelength. That's why bass will sound and feel louder in an suv than a regular cab. Same reason subs usually do better playing toward the back of the trunk in a car. Gives the wave more room to develop. Thats also why bass is heard from much greater distances than the highs.

Ive been working on one for my single cab for the past few days pretty much non stop. Its hard as hell fitting 2 Rl-p's behind the seats.

what truck do you have i got one 12" rlp in my reg cab dakota in 1.5cf but im probly gonna build a 2cf box sometime

I won both a truck and a hatchback

with 2 12s in my truck,and 1 12 in my hatch

I feel the cabin gain of the hatch pwns my truck

So what would be the best place to position my sub?

I have an extended cab Ford Ranger, the sub is an RE SE12, and its in a sealed enclosure for now until I can drive home on thanksgiving break to build a nice vented box.

ive always heard downfiring under the seats work very well if i had an ext cab thats probly what i would do

I've heard some **** loud installs in extended cab Rangers - filling up the entire back where the rear seat used to be, with amp/accessory racks on either side...that is, if you like sitting two people //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Jack, thanks for the compliment!

There is no bench seat in the back of an ext. cab ranger, it has 2 little "jump" seats that fold down from the side walls. I plan on building a ported box on one side so I can still use a jump seat if I need it.
