sub cutting out

well today I set the gain and I was listening to it and I played it for like 2 minutes and then the subs cut out, and I turn it down and the subs come back on, the amp is a kx1200.1 gain set at half and the deck is a alpine cda-9853 with the sub out set to +15 because I read that they got the setting backwards on the deck. anyways I am lead to believe that the alt. can't keep up with the system running and the car, it is the stock alt 65amp and I am getting a 160amp alt really soon. the gain is set at 600 watts at 1 ohm, and the connections are all sanded down and tight, the amp is not going into protection mode either, what rated fuses should I be running on the power wire and at the distro block....

main fuse 100amp?

distro fuse 100amp?

Well the alt is definatly a problem...I know that amp is drawing alot more than 65 amps. Also if you could I would get a large alt than 160...Look into a 200+amp. As for the fuses if you are using 1/0 gauge 250-300 sould be your fuse size. Distro block for 4 gauge you should be running at least 80-100.

ok ill up the fuses, they are 60 right now. but i don't think it is the connections or anything like that i think it is the alt. it worked fine before I set the gain.

I have a slightly different view.....You should put a voltmeter on the car anywhere in the system and check what the voltage is when you crank up the subs...If the voltage drops below 12.5 volts probably the amp is shutting down due to low voltage....Which is normal....It is true that the alternator is of a low amperage value but if your battery is of low capacity it can affect this equation also. Say your battery is 650 CCA instead of 1000CCA could also affect this situation. The other issue is what is the impedence load of the amp. You say it is 1 ohm. It is possible that if you increase the impedence load to the amp that this shut-off problem could be lessened. If you are running an extremely low impedence load the amp might not like it and is shutting off due to that. Also you mention that you have the Sub Out set at +15...Is this a wise thing regardless of what is thought to be true...my 2cents
