The back of the box will be pushed up against the back of the seat in my regular cab pick up. Also people use silicone all the time on finishing their projects such as siding, bathroom fixtures and even windows. To say using silicone would be unsightly I think its a little off.Cutting the motor out of the box would allow for a very shallow box, but I question how good it would look to just see a motor sticking out of your box, with a glob of silicone around it. I also fail to see how this would improve mounting depth requirements beyond the thickness of your wood, 3/4" usually... big whoop. But to each their own.
After reading this, I recant all my statements and wish you good luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gifAlso people use silicone all the time on finishing their projects such as siding, bathroom fixtures and even windows. Thank you!i read this and have to respond
if the hole for the magnet is large enough to leave a little room it might work providing its not a vented pole piece
leave about 1/4 " all the way around and put a big bead of whatever sealant you choose but make sure its flexible cuz no matter how stiff your box is the wall opposite from the cone will flex and it the sealant cant flex it will just peel away and leak
just a suggestion if you do it dont use silicone it will peel away for sure use polyseamseal

great stuff it is more like a flexible adhesive than silicone
Because you think that no mater what you guys say I will fight it? If your response is that it will be cosmetically "unacceptable" then I will call your response pointless. I didn’t ask if this would be pretty or be acceptable by the general public. I asked for reason why this idea wouldn’t work. I’ve been around here enough to know who to take serious and who not to. I also know that 90% of the people on here just lurk around waiting to make some stupid comment to sound funny. So my question stand to be proven that it won’t work. The guy that mentioned the box flexing causing the seal around the motor to leak is informative and it was something I failed to think of.After reading this, I recant all my statements and wish you good luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
I thought about this. I got my subs at a really great deal. They are also 5.5" mounting depth so to find something that has a smaller mounting depth than that is rare other than the shallow mount subs which I do not want to spend money on.Hey, if the sub has a vented pole, it makes for a great 4th order infinite baffle bandpass! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
seriously though, it will work it will just be ghettoriffic in design. People on here tend to think that if you put the effort to install some sort of system, it should be at least have some effort in the design of it as well. Im surprised someone hasnt suggested just selling that sub and getting one that meets your depth requirements and build a box that isnt ghetto.
