sub/amp power ?

hey guys, just looking for some advice.I have 2- 12w6v2 subs and a 1501d amp.Here is the problem.This amp is only 2ohm stable so im only getting about 700 watts between the 2 subs. I can tell they are underpowered and could take a lot more.I don't have a lot of options with this amp and unfortunately cant buy a new one right now. I was thinking maybe just run 1 sub at 2 ohms and turn the gain down. Would that still be to much for this sub
