Sub/Amp Combo Question

im helpin one of my friends get a sub cuz she wants that extra bass. she dont wanna spend too much and she dont really need ridiculous bass so shes lookin for somethin with good sq.

i came across the Alpine Type S and the Kicker CompVR, both 12". the Type S is 300 rms and the CompVR is 400 rms. shes most likely gonna be powering the sub with a Profile AP1000 (480w rms bridged @ 4ohms) or a Power Acoustic Gothic OV2-820 (460w rms bridged @ 4ohms).

i dont have any experience with the Type S, but some with the CompVR. i can get each sub for about the same price like a $6 difference so would it be better to go with the Kicker because it has 100w more handling? or is the Type S better for sq?

the amps are similar, i can get them for about the same too, only a $2 difference. i have no experience with either amp. ive heard how profile is a good "bang for the buck" and ive heard the Gothic series is decent. so which amp would be better?

just looking for some opinions on this cuz im not sure what direction to lead her in. any help would be appreciated.

i dunno wat ive been reading around here compvr is the way to go cuz its buy 1 get 1 free rite?

As Kicker has a Buy 1 Get 1 sale going on right now I'd go for the CVRs (why buy 1 when ya can get 2 for the same price, right?) - get a pair of DVC 4 Ohm subs, wire them for a 4 Ohm final load and whichever amp your friend ends up with wire it bridged and give each subs 230 or so watts. Oughta sound pretty good, IMO.

I have no personal experience with Power Akoustic amps so I cannot directly comment on those but I have had several Profile amps and for the $$ I liked each one of 'em. They are pretty freggin' good entry-level amps.

isnt the buy one get one free just for the comps? not the cvrs? i dunno but i do think im goin wit the kicker because of the power handling and i have more experience with them. probably gonna go with the profile because more power too, so my friend can get the most for her money.
