Strange Problem

Hey guys- Ive got 4ga power wire fused with a 80 amp fuse.. this is ran to a 1 farad cap then to a distro block and split to two 8ga wire going to a crossover and a 1600w mono amp (2 1100w 10"s). ive had this set up for a while now with no problems until the other day (nothing was changed in the set up) i lost power completly. the fuse wasnt blown but the fuse holder seemed like it kinda exploded and crack at one of the ends.. i put in a new one and a new fuse (now 60 amp). everything was cool for a couple days then the same thing happened. its strange because i dont think the fuse is blowin, the problem is the holder. so i replaced both again and i have power but the system sounds terrible. sounds like its under water... maybe out of phase - not sure. sounds like the subs will blow if i crank it... any suggestions?

I already checked all the grounds, I have two- One going to a distro block that splits to the amp and crossover, and anoher that is only for the cap. everything looks good with those. As far as the fuse holder goes, ive already tried 3 brands. any other suggestions??
