Storing subs

I had a couple JL 10W0's I wanted to store...

usually I would just sit them on the motor cone-up on a shelf...

but i wanted these out of the way, so I filled a couple boxes with packing peanuts.

I thought they would be soft enough to hold them fine but they still left little creases in the surround

and at resting position, the cone is now at a negative point of excursion rather than even.

Is this going to be a problem, or will they fix themselves after I throw juice to them for awhile?

Not.... you.... again......

Yeah.... packing peanuts are going to damage your sub:rolleyes:

And if your were a big enough idiot, which we all know you are, to add peanuts to a box and set to rest with the motor up than you deserve it.

Wait.

So you had them on shelves and moved them because they took up space.

So you put them in boxes instead? Why not just put them in boxes motor side down and move them someplace else?

Or am I reading this wrong..?

eh the only boxes i had laying around were office paper boxes...

2 of them would fit by puting one cone down, and one cone up.

It's not like I cared about em, they were like 8 year old W0's.

I just wanted them in my spare closet in a box where i didn't have to look at em, they were just clutter...

only reason i'm asking is because i was thinking about giving them away to a friend.

Anyway now that you've pointlessly questioned my motives enough, anybody know if the creased surround will correct itself with power, or if i need to fix it some how before I power them?

PS: Greg... calling ME an idiot? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif

I got a beefy lookin sub from a buddys garage that had a bunch of crap piled on top of it.

and the surround was all deformed and cone was a little pushed in.

give the sub low power for a bit. listen for noise of the voice coil rubbing inside.

it could be dead. or it could work fine. test it out - the worst that could happen is

its a piece of junk you kept around for no good reson ( other than having a large fridge magnet //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah i mean the only thing i was worried about is that

1. the coil would rub, (which it doesn't) or..

2. that the crease would make the mechanical center of the subs cycle closer to the back of the motor. But... then again i'm not sure if the suspension on a w0 is strong enough to counter-act the force of the motor, and effect the stroke.
