I got a 110 stock amp alternator. ill be running a pdx 4.150 and a bxi-2008d. So 2600 watt rms. I can't get a mechman kit, the local alternator shop says they won't rewind or upgrade my alternator due to it being special and they say it will cause driveability problems (05 acura rsx base). The wiring will be all 2/0 welding wire with the big 3 done in 2/0 welding wire as well.

Is there any way to make this system work??? Do i need x number of batteries??? what can be done!?

Please someone help a fellow audio lover out!

Good guess:

2600 watts divided by 13.8 volts = 188A.

Music isn't static though, it's dynamic. The only time you'll need all 188A is on sustained transients with volume maxed out.

You''re going to experience some headlight dimming at night, but with normal listening levels you should be alright.

at least up date the under the hood batt and one in the rear and you should be ok, but i would look into gettin a alt
Ya, i talked to miller on the forum and he gave me a link for a 165 amp alt, that should be enough for the dynamic music response as long as i have the kinetic 2400 installed as well.

that's assuming that the amp is 100% efficient, which is never the case

I guess you didn't read GOOD GUESS//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I guess you had nothing else to add that would help out the OP. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Your best bet is an upgraded under the hood battery and a strong battery in the trunk. I think that would be sufficient.
Adding a second battery is no solution. You've doubled the load on the charging circuit. Second batteries only help engine off situations. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ya, 2x strong batteries and the 165 amp alt seem to be my only salvation. Had everything all planned out for a 250 amp mechman kit, but then matt at mechman found out that the big case drop in, doesn't drop in..it broke my heart:crying:

Thanks for the responses guys, its very much appreciated:D

If you get that second battery, you're dense. It will not help you unless the engine isn't running.

i would have to completely disagree. i know of many people running multiple batteries on a stock alternator drawing large amounts of current. i can EASILY run 5k on music off of 2 batteries and a stock alt with no problems. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I don't care what you disagree with. Have you ever taken a basic electrical class?

Batteries are a load on an alternator. Batteries don't even come into play until the car is shut off.

While a car is running almost all of it's power is from the altenator. Adding a second battery, only adds to the load of what an alternator has to supply electricity with until it's completely charged.

You really shouldn't give advice until you fully understand a car's electrical system.

Otherwise you're just giving bad advice. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

when the car is running the power does come from the alternator. but with amplifiers drawing larger currents then the alternator can supply then the power needs to come from somewhere else.

so your trying to tell me if tommyk took out one of his 2 batteries his voltage drop would be the same and he wouldnt be any quieter?

No, I'm not telling you that, but for all the extra amps he's drawing off the batteries, he's drawing as many amps from the altenator trying to recharge those two batteries.

Do you get it now? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Are you just trolling or what?
