Stock charging sys @14.6, 15.4 , 16, 17 then 18 and poof

^ You can still have it set to charge @ 14.1v via the dial on the regulator. I'd speak to Matthew over @ Mechman alts and see what he can do for you. Many can vouch for him, as well as myself. See if he makes an alt for your vehicle and go from there.

Hay just found out my volt regs have been spiking slowly failing and thats wats been killing my alts and bats, a guy at the parts store said i just need a strong adjustable volt reg and this shouldnt happen any more. Any recommendations on a good adjustable volt reg?

very common on the old doge trucks and cars, the volt reg is on the firewall, take it off and clean the firewall and back of the reg up with sandpaper and remove any paint or rust, the regs are self grounding. Check the field wires from the reg to the alt and make sure they are good and no bad connections. They are 2 small wires like 16awg. If there is still a problem just get a new reg at the parts store, they are like $20. There is nothing to bypass as the reg is already external. Dont put a 1 wire on. You dont need to get an expensive adjustable that you need on gm, ford, and imports either. The old setups are actually pretty cool as you can plop an adjustable right in place of a stock one, no rewiring or anything. Here is an adjustable about half way down the page.

i did all that and still have the prob, the adjustable reg should help cuz if the voltage gets too high i can just turn it down.

I am sorry but help me out here I am a little buzzzzed about now. Did you say you put on a new volt reg and still have the problem?
