Steve with IXL-10 Install

Interesting. I am wondering why more people don't go this route for enclosures as it being so cheap if it works well.
Might have to try one myself in the future.

Looks good by the way.
Because it's not what's everyone's doing! And if everyone isn't doing it, then it must not be good...!

P.S.:

EDIT:: And the reason I've never done it is because I don't know how to. Hah. Didn't know if there was a complex science, and I just automatically went with boxes. But, I'm going to look into one for my 10's. I need to do more research, though.

Using Sonotube has some real advantages over wood:
- Build is simple

- No bracing needed as vibrations are spread evenly around tube

- Cheap

A lot of people use them for HT subs. Here's a little program that helps you calculate the length of tube, port, etc.

Nice program there Mark, thanks for the download! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Also, really nice looking build man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

I can't take credit for either the program, nor the install, although I wish I could //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks for the info. Are there any cons, though?

Structurally, there aren't any. However, considering the shape, you are limited to how you can mount your driver and port. Port length may become an issue based on tuning requirement. I suppose you could use a large enough Sonotube to have the driver and port mounted on the same end, but that might become bulky.

I use tubes for testing all the time. Its fast, cheap and solid.

EDIT: There is a thin wax coating on the inside of the tube that you have to peal off in order to glue down the end caps. If you don't remove it the glue won't work.

very easy to buildand very light weight

only about 2 puonds without the sub.

i coated the inside with gravelguard to seal.

the tube was built at .8 cubes ported to 36hz

as per marks recomendation.

with both subs playin it hits like a ton of bricks!!!!!!!!!

and plays nice and low with the epicenter.

system consists of 2 (possibly 3) ixl 10.2.2's

Rockford punch 150 25 to life series amp bridged to the subs

PG M50 front amp.

audio control epicenter and EQL.

pheonix gold XV4 crossover (passive)

clarion pro audio mids and tweets.

I just don't like the look of tubes...reminds me of Bazooka too much. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Love the subs though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
