stereo works with amp but cd player doesnt :(

so heres the deal, i have my 4 channel amp set up that is running my sub and 2 6x9's in the rear of my VW bug. I decided to make it easier and run the front speakers directly off of the head unit. so here is my problem: when i put a cd in, only the front speakers running off of the head unit make sound, nothing in the rear plays, but when i listen to the radio, all speakers and the sub work. so i dont know what to do about it, any ideas?

Disconnect the amp's remote turn-on wire from the blue wire at the back of the head unit, and connect it to the blue/white wire instead.
X 2.

What it sounds like you have done, and it is a rather common mistake, is to connect the amp's remote turn-on input to the head unit's power antenna output which only carries current when in tuner mode but not CD mode.

You'll find two blue wires coming off of the rear of your head unit. Whichever one you have connected as a remote turn-on switch to the other one and it should cure your problem.

thanks you two... works perfectly now, its a sony head unit and there is only the one blue wire coming out, but below the connector with all the wires (you can tell im new at the car stereo system thing) there is a round blue inlet smaller than a quarter inch thick... i hooked up my amp to the ignition, so it works now, but can that little blue hole be the outlet plug for an amp? heres a picture:

I'm sure seeing two blue wires in that harness, friend. One darker and one lighter (the lighter one looks like it comes out of the harness immediately next to the red switched power wire and the darker looks like it is farther to the left close to the green speaker wires....)

thats just a bad picture, that one is actually the purple speaker wire. i was wondering what the blue thing in the bottom right hand corner was.... cd changer? maybe, but i have an auxuliary imput RCA as well in the back so i dunno

Okay. Then we'll try a different route....what is the model # on that Sony deck?

The port next to the blue plug is for a CD changer. What the (what looks like to me to be) stereo miniplug port is for I'm at a bit of a loss...

Gimme the model # and I'll hunt up an owner's manual if I can and we'll go from there. Did you get the deck new or used?

dont mind the wiring, its a 66 VW bug, gotta love that dome design one 12" hits pretty **** hard

its a SONY CDX-F7700

Okay - according to the manual the port down in that corner that we have been wondering what it is for is an input for a wired remote.

Mystery solved there. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also according to the manual there should be two blue wires in the harness....a light blue and a dark blue. The dark blue is for power antenna activation and the other should be used for remote accessory activation.

hmmm yeah it is the old harness... i switched stereos from my truck to my bug so the truck still has the more advanced harness... I dont want to mess with it too much in the truck. I might go ahead and get another harness for the bug, because i dont want to overload my 2 ignition fuses. Other than the other blue wire is there a difference that would hurt me, or will this harness work?

no the harness will be fine. you just dont have a remote line using the old one. If it were me i'd either cut out the other harness or go buy a new one to make it work right.
