OK, so i'm new at this, and i'm sure you've heard that a thousand times...but I've got a pioneer deck pushing 2 4"'s(lame, i know) and 2 6x9's. I put bassblockers on the 4's, and the 6x9's are in boxes behind my seat on the shelf. I have 2 problems---#1--When i crank up my music, the 4's start sounding digital or something, i think it's the bassblockers or something, but i'm not sure! #2--My 6x9's are only playing bass! No mids or highs. could that be a wiring problem or the bassblockers? Also, i'll gladly take advice for a better system (at least as much as can fit into a small pickup cab!) I really want something good, but not crazy expensive. Ok, thanks for all your help!

Yeah, i've messed with all of the audio settings till my thumbs fell off, but it doesn't change anything drastically. I've got it to where I can stand it, but things still sound strange. Especially the 6x9's not playing highs and mids.

The problem with the 6x9's is almost certainly the result of head unit settings. Many Pioneers have an option called Front Image Enhancer (FIE on the audio menu). If it's on, turn it off, and that should solve your problem.

Couldnt remember what it was called and too lazy to go look it up.

Ok, i turned it off, but it just made things muddier, it's better set on 100. it goes 100, 160, and i think 250. 100 takes off the muddy sound best. Any ideas on the digital sound coming from the 4's when i crank it? And it's not the deck that's causing the 6x9's not play highs and mids, so i'm stuck. thanks for all the help so far!

Well without looking at it, I cant think what the problem may be right now. I'll think it over and maybe someone else will have an idea on it as well. As for a cheap start to building up your system, I suggest starting out with a single 10" and a GOOD amp to drive it. Dont fall into the "Everything World" trap. Lots of good info on this site. Read around. Good luck. Oh and Welcome to the Forum.

Ok, thanks a lot. I have an old bazooka tube that i might throw in until i can get something good, any advice on a good sub/amp? i know it's mostly personal preference...i listen to mostly rock, which means i need good reaction time/tight bass, so any advice would be appreciated. thanks again for all the help

It really depends on what you are willing to spend.

hmmm, i'm willing to spend probably about $400. I know that's pretty cheap, but i've gotta save some mula for school. and for the digital sound, it's hard to explain...i think it's probably the bass sound trying to come through the 4's, but the bassblockers are on them, so it's not supposed to go through, but it still sounds like it's leaking through. i think i just need to take them off.

Ok, awesome, thanks a lot, there's a memphis dealer in my town, so i'll go check those out. Also, to the reply earlier, how do i make sure the 6x9's are in phase? is there a special process for that?
