Stereo Integrity BM update

In this newsletter I will outline what is happening to the BM series subwoofers. First and foremost almost everything is changing except the size of the voice coil and the shape of the basket. Other than that, everything is being improved.

The cone/diaphragm has been changed to a two-piece patent-pending design that is more rigid than anything else on the market while maintaining an ultra-shallow profile. The surround has been changed to a normal roll surround. The basket will be painted Lexus metallic white with all of connectors/fasteners being black chrome. The spider is an improved, but still massive, 10" nomex weave. And last but not least the motor is being changed to a 10 disk neo ring that not only improves BL but also makes the unit ~5 lbs lighter. And of course the shorting ring is still being implemented to lower and maintain inductance over stroke which will provide un-paralleled transient response in shallow subwoofers.

All of these changes are only going to push the start of production back another 30 days. The changes are worth their weight in gold, as the new BM's will now be the highest linear stroke, best performing, best sounding, best looking drivers in the shallow subwoofer arena.

Keep your eyes peeled on our forum for the newest updates/progress concerning the BM's!

I figured i'd share this with you guys since i'm sure i'm not the only one interested in these woofers.

i'm glad they're focusing on making the best shallow mount, but i just hope it doesn't affect the price tag that much, since that's what initially attracted me to this sub.

The design changes are going to affect the cost. The only estimate cost we ever released was back when we first began working on the shallow BM and there have been two major revisions/improvements since then, with this last one being the most severe revision and improvement . With 1/3 more linear stroke than the TW5, a more linear suspension, lower and more linear inductance, higher power handling capability, much lower Fs, and similar enclosure sizes, it is going to be a formidable addition to the shallow mount category.

i wanna see it! and i wanna know how much one will cost... i was planning on runnin 4 or 8 with 2k or 4k watts in the (probably distant) future... but maybe not if its gonna break the bank.

You could see a pic of it by doing a search. But I warn you, there are man-nipples involved.
LOL! Very true. Gotta love it when Hoss takes pictures of himself holding my product. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I'll snap a few pics of the current version without the changes to the color of the basket or the treatment of the cone and post them up on here for you guys. At least you'll be able to see what the flat diaphragm is going to look like (minus the spun treatment) mated up to the surround. I'll also post a few more pic of the spider. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If you're looking for cheap shallow subs and cost is your main concern over performance, why not look into the Pioneer or Kenwood offerings? They're both under $200 for a 12".

So is it still a .5 cubes sealed driver, is it gonna end up costing more then a mag, whats the new xmax and fs, is it a 3" coil now and does it still have xbl, is this gonna be geared more towared the old mag crowed?

Yes it is still a 0.5 ft^3 sealed only driver and still uses XBL^2. Xmax will be 13mm. Fs is 16.5 Hz. Cost is TBD but is going to be at least the cost of the Mag v4. It won't be anywhere near the old v3 Mags as the application couldn't be further from them - 500 watt power handling and 0.5 ft^3 sealed only is completely oposite than 1000+ watt moderately sized ported or sealed.

i've seen the old pics, man nipples and all. i was hoping to see a pic with the lexus white basket, but those pics will do for now. why no more inverted surround?
The surround was prematurely hitting the spider when it was inverted. The regular roll works great though. The comliance "curve" is a straight line now: perfectly linear. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

sorry for asking if this is a bad question, but it seems like it is almost identical in application to the V4 mag, except a smaller box. Both sealed only, both shallow mount, both relatively low xmax. The mag handles more power and uses a bigger box, but what else is the difference?

Why the switch to everything sealed only?

The BM is 2" shallower and works off of much lower levels of power compared to the Mag v4. The Mag v4 really shouldn't be used with anything less than 250, it likes 500-750 really well, and its limit is 1000 in the target enclosure. The BM will work well off of anything as little as 75 watts, it will like 150-400 really well, and can handle up to 500 in the target enclosure. The BM is an entirely different beast when it comes to applications, and it offers a LOT of punch/performance for such a shallow woofer.

I'm taking SI to sealed only because that is what 90% of my customers wanted / want. The older v3 was a nice driver, but it was the opposite direction of what I wanted from the Mag from the very beginning. 90% of the emails I received while selling/designing the v2 and v3 Mags were what's the lowest amount of power they will work on, how deep are they, and what's the smallest sealed box they will work in. There are plenty of drivers that do well in 1.2'ish ft^3 sealed and 2 ft^3 ported that offer decent SQ but lots of SPL. That's fine for the people who want that. I don't, and my current customers don't either. But it's not like the v3 isn't going to come back. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I've been working on a copy of the v3 but with higher power handling for another company over the past year or so. If they stick to what they've told me it will also be less expensive than the v3's ever were, so that will be good news for the ca.com crowd. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif
