Staticy/Scratchy rear comps

well ive got a staticy/scratchy noise commin from my rear comps. its almost like there cuttin in and out. its not a consatant thing either. it happens on and off (but more often on). at first, it was only my right-rear comp, so i thought it might be a loose connection. but now the left-rear is doing it too, so what are the chances or TWO loose connections? i still havent tryed to diagnose it yet, but i wanna get some ideas first. ive got a couple ideas:

1. bad pre-outs from HU

2. bad RCA's

3. bad rear channel on amp (maybe from power wire shorting on manifold?)

what do you all think? first, im gonna switch the rca's front & rear, and that will tell me if its the HU. then if its the same, ill switch the wires for the front & rear channels and that should tell me if its the amp. any other suggestions? TIA

Maybe your giving the speakers to much power and there distorting. Otherwise they might already be blown. Go and push on the cones a little and see if it makes a scratchy sound.

I dont think its the RCAS.

it shouldnt be the ground. cause that would mean that ALL the comps would be scratchy wouldnt it? its only my rears. im not sure when im gonna be able to work on it, but if you all have any other ideas, plz post them. ill let you know what happens when i get into the troubleshooting.

ok, ive sort of figured it out. i went to the amp and messed with the rca's, and it seems that the rear rca's are the problem. i wiggled them and they made the staticy/scratchy sound. i swithed them with the front rca's, then the front comps made the sound. i went behind the HU and wiggled all the rca's, and nothing happened. so it seems that the connectors on the ends of the rear rca's are bad/loose/poor etc. what can i do?

now another problem i have (which is probably what mainly caused this problem) is that my amp is mount in a bad place. i have a 2-door blazer. and behind the rear-folding seats is a piece of carpeted metal (it covers the open hole when the seats are folded down). i have it mounted to that. and that only leaves me with about ~3 inches of room between the bottom of the amp and the floor of my hatch. so all the wires are bending pretty severely. this would explain why the problem is with the rca's. there is really only 1 other place to mount my amp, and it would be a real biotch to do it. also, i would need to xtend all wires + rca's. i guess i might just hafta do this unless i want to hear static for the rest of my cars life. do any of you guys have any other ideas? thanx

does any1 make any kind of adapters. like...something i can plug into the rca's and on the other end it will have new connectors. but the new ones will be bent at a right angle? anything like that?

i have another question too. on the amp, theres a switch for "1x/10x frequencey range" which should it be on 1x or 10x?

i went to radio sack and got some right-angled rca connectors. and it seems to have solved the problem. but now i got a new problem. the right-rear speaker makes the slightest humming noise. and its only the right rear speaker. and when i touch the metal of the rca connection with my finger, it makes a really loud buzzing noise. and its only the right-rear rca no others. what could this be?

also, i broke a bit off inside the bolt that tightens the ground to the amp. can any1 tell me how to get it out. its to small for any plyers (even needle nose) and i doubt a magnet will work. it seems to be lodged in there. thnx

if you can get on the other side of that nut push it out with a small screw driver or something and as far as the humming noise it may be due to a bad RCA is thats the only speaker doing it make sure the RCA isin't touching anything like the car computer or anything also instead of replacing the messy rca's you could have used some plyers or something and slightly bent the ground ends of them so it forms more of a suction around the inputs

thanx. i havent tried getting the bit out yet, but im gonna try a little piece of fatmat. that crap is sticky! as for the rca's, i think its just a bad rca, so im gonna replace it. now im stuck on fabboing the rear speaker adapters...6x9 to 6.5...
