State Prepares For Possible Shutdown As Talks Continue

Make investments? They guy that bought it took over what I owed, so was his problem. I see no financial problem there. Thought it was a wise decision on my part being I couldnt stand the POS.

Now if I had the old 4.3L, then maybe I would have a different opinion. Also I bought my Ford new and will have it paid off next year. Only a 3 year loan as car will be that old. So I see no problem as I am keeping the car for a while now. I was thinking of selling it awhile ago because of the room. But the fiance is looking to get another vechichle as her's has had its problems as of late. So you have an old s-10 where I have a 20,000 mile Ford Focus ST that I love.
I was referring to the massive depreciation you absorbed on the vehicle.

I don't see how point 2 is relevant. Again, are you making a stab at my selection?

I considered the Focus, but most of the aftermarket products lean toward rice, which I am not a big fan of. I do see more and more products that are performanced based, but not too "rice". If I get second car, I think I will consider the focus....esp the 3 door hatchback.

I guess I should explain a little better. I do one type of analysis for a company and a different type of analysis for a model....I guess that is a more coherent explanation.
So how much did the parts cost in your S-10? What is GM's dividends? I know GM has only been around 100 or so years and is the largest auto retailer but we most know their dividends to know if it is a good company.

Again, I do not have access to all that information. I use other factors, such as the quality of the steel, which I can analyze. Is the frame fully boxes or "c" shaped. What size nuts and bolts to the use. I have to make guesses as to "cost" by analyzing what I can see.

GM pays a quartely dividend of .25. Capital budgeting is important in company analysis, yes. I feel as you do not think about the quality of the company when considering auto purchases.

What do you do? Low miles and cheap?

I guess I should have put IMO then. I had an old S10 4.3L and loved it, but the body was rusted to the gill and didn't feel like investing in a new bed and what not, so sold it for 2000 buck a roo's as it only had 100k on it. Just seems like the old chevy medal's didn't last for shit. The 99 I had I got loaded, but was just the 4 banger and OMG was a pig! I just couldnt take the get up or lack there of. So let the guy take over payments and got me into something else.

The Focus is a terrific car, one of the best green cars you can get. I have the loaded ST one with the 2.3L in it and this sucker goes. I have done a couple mild things to it and it isnt riced out at all. I have a Focus sport exhaust system that sounds perfect and have had a fair amount of people ask me how much money I have invested in the engine, when it hasnt been that much. I plain on checking on a trubo for it in the future and some other things, but I just enjoy the daily commute in it. Also Ford dont hold their resale value well either. Most American companys dont.

If I do get a focus, I am gonna put so many freaking miles on it, the car will be worthless when I sell it anyway.

I am undecided is trying to get my 66 mustang back on the road as a daily driver vs. selling it and buying a focus as a daily driver. I am leaning towards the 66 as I can drive the hell out of it without worry about miles. Plus, I added a 22 gallon gas tank so I could go for about 1.5 weeks without stopping for gas. I am curious if I can get it up to 35 mpg...

Not sure if I understand. Your gonna take a 66 mustang over a new car and not have to worry about how many miles u put on it?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

I think it is funny when someone who tries so hard to keep un uber intellect (there has to be investment forums out there, so why run around on a caraudio forum) on the forum ends up not making too much sense. I don't want involved in this conversation, but I'm going to subscribe just so I can laugh a bunch.

Because it is a 6cyl car that has been totalled. If it where rare, in great condition, etc then not so much. It barely has value as a parts car. But I think a few improvements here and there and can make a great daily driver for cheaper than it would cost to buy a new car.

Glad I can amuse you. It's good that we both know I am not smart. Hell, many forum members scored far better than me on most standardized tests. What you are confusing in point of views. I look at things from a different point of view than you and try to explain my point of view. It's more about my lack of ability to communicate than to seem upidy.

I am on a car audio forum because I enjoy car audio. I just have an investments background. I apologize for letting my personality show on the forum.

I cant believe you said GM is smart, and your an economist.
GM is having a hard enough time paying employees and is on the brink of bankruptcy lol

Never said GM was smart. I said they provided the best product for my needs. I personally think all of the big 3 waste too much money on concept cars and other non-sense of things they would never build. They spent millions on the Buick Bengal knowing full and well they would never build it. Why couldn't they focus those efforts on something they will build?

Yes I do.
I do not see how that matters. I buy GM and only GM because they are a smart company. They do not redesign vehicles every 20 days like import cars do. They usually keep the same body style for 5 or 10 years.

This allows them to reduce costs of parts due to economies of scale. It also makes the job easier on the assembly line workers as they become very familiar with the ins and out of the car, thus more likely to do a better job. They have sufficient time to work out the kinks and problems as well.

This all makes cost of ownership cheaper.
