i know not every place is going to pay the same, i'm looking for ballpark figures. can i expect 10ish an hour or will i have to start at like 7? it's not really worth my time if i'm not going to be getting at least 10, i'll probably only do this for a year or 2 years tops while i get my bills caught up before going to college.
i'm obviously not as good as a highly experienced, certified installer, but i've installed all of my stereos for the last 8 years, and a few of my friends. i can deaden, build pretty nice boxes, have more than enough tools, including woodworking tools. i know the basics of 12v dc, although i'd probably have to study up on ohm's law a bit. i'd say i'm more experienced than 9 out of 10 people who would just be getting their basic mecp certification. i have a good attitude, work well with people, learn fast, and look presentable, so i dont think i'd have trouble finding employment.
basically i'm trying to decide between staying with working on heavy machinery, which i have experience with and can get 12-15 an hour doing to get everything paid up, or probably making a couple bucks less an hour doing something i enjoy, and would be more of a learning experience for me than just WORK. honestly, i'd rather take the pay cut as long as it isnt too dramatic. is there anything else about installing for a living i should know before pursuing this further?
