Started building the Tritrix...

yea the worst part about sanding off the undercoating was i used an orbital sander, so when the undercoating would clump up on the sand paper, it would cause a swirl effect on the wood, as seen in the first pic. The wood is actually very smooth, just looks like a little kid drew on it with a black crayon. But i think it adds 7 db's...

actually, if you were to laquer them liek that with a very high shine it'd look pretty sweet.
i thought about it, but there are too many imperfections that would be easily seen, and honestly, i'm tired of working on these things. Ready to finish them and start enjoying them.

i was able to get the vinyl and padding tonight and surprisingly got one cabinet wrapped. I still need to go back with some aluminum strips and cover where i stapled the vinyl. I know your thinking, "aluminum strips?", but the way i laid the vinyl out, i was able to make the "joints" at places where 3/4" aluminum strips could be formed and placed over it to not only hide the staples, but to give it a little silver, matching the grill guards. I'll have pictures tomorrow night for sure.

All i can say is **** VINYL!!!!! this is my first time using vinyl and it has straight wore me out. Theres so much pulling here and there is sucks.

Screw it. heres some pics as of now. REMEMBER, WHERE YOU SEE STAPLES, YOU WILL NOT SEE WHEN THEY ARE COMPLETE. The metal strips will also flatten out the "ruffles" or bumps the staples cause around the feet. But still, there are a couple places i need to pull a staple or two out and work tweak a little.

Here'a what 1/2" strips look like. I'm going with 3/4" just to give myself a little bit of room for error. There will be a band around the top, around the bottom, and around the top of the feet. Also, the back will be outlined and the inside squares on the feet will have a strip.

Here is the first cabinet "completed". I still need to sand down most of the metal to get the blemishes out and trim a few pieces to make them fit a little closer, but its pretty much done. Tell me what you think. All opinions please.

no knowing i never have worked with vinyl before, i knew i would have staples showing. So i tried to think of a way to cover them up and still have it look somewhat decent and this is what i came up with. It kind of reminds me of a piece of luggage or something. They sound really good. Very surprised they get as loud as they do without any distortion at all. I'm not making any real judgments until they get broken in good.

Ha ha, I c what you mean now, like those heavy guitar cases that have wheels on the bottom.
