Stapping/Ohm question...

So i have (will have) one orion 1200d to push my orion h2 but i know it can take a lot more power. I was thinking about buying another 1200d and strapping them. But when you strap them each amp sees half the impendance right?? so if i gave the amps a 1 ohm load strapped they would each see .5 ohms right???? If thats right my question is can a 1200d take .5 ohms daily???

I know that on the Viper amplifiers (which directed manufactured as well), when they were strapped, the nominal impeadance rose. If you strapped two 1200.1's, the nominal imp rose to 2ohms, and they were no longer 1ohm stable. I can only imagine it would be the same for the Orion versions. You can maybe run one amp to a coil, or ditch the second 1200 and get a 2500.

You are correct. A 1ohm load to a pair of strapped amplifiers mean that each amp would "see" a .5ohm load.

the stable load in the manual will go up yes. cause strapped to a load 2 1 0hm stable amps are only stable to a 2 ohm nominal load when strapped that gives each amp a 1 ohm load. so in the OP case its 1 ohm strappedl oad so each amp see's .5

So basically if i strap them they will each see .5 ohm...Would they be able to handle it??? or should i just ditch the 1200d and go for one big amp when the time comes?

unless it says in the manual it can take a half ohm then it can't, I believe this amp is stable at 1ohm. strapped, each amp will see 1 ohm but the minimum you can use will rise to 2ohm. I say ditch the idea or you will be buying another set of amps or amp any way cause your gonna burn some *^&^ up.

? though... WHY DO YOU NEED MORE POWER, an h2 can hardly handle what your doing now, keep the amps you got and get a better sub configuration if your not happy with the volume, its not going to get any louder!

x200...

Ported especially, power handling goes WAY down. Plus... Your charging system, and everything else will be fuct. Keep the 1200D and know that it is enough... YOu got this shi hooked up? Lemme see it man! I'll tell ya how good you did puttin it in //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

It'll be hooked up as soon as my amp Frickin gets here...i finally got the 2 awg through the firewall and raised my 6x9s so my box fits...all thats missing is my effing amp. You guys don't think a h2 could handle 2000 watts ported...? I guess it does say 1500 for ported on there site...

Oh and you can't make fun of my box my friend from great sounds cut/put most of it together and he was kinda retarded...didn't spread the glue out right so now only half the joints on the end are glued, i did my best to get some glue in there and seal it. The box looks pretty ghey but i'm thinking it should sound okay.
