Staining a box?

How does it turn out on the MDF? Does it look decent?

It can. If you use a brush to apply the stain, it will leave streak marks that almost look like wood grain.

This is MDF stained dark walnut:

The only thing though is that it doesnt cover up flaws like paint will..correct?

Correct. Also, make **** sure that you sand away ALL the glue from the edges. Tite Bond does NOT stain well at all and it makes things look like shit. To make sure you have sanded it all away, take a picture with a flash and look for yellow areas in the picture. You can't see them with the ***** eye all that well.
