SSF question...

I'm about to run 3kw+ on 2 12"s ported and i know it's recommended to have a SSF so the subs don't over extend (beyond mech limits). I'm not sure how to use one, and i KNOW i don't have one. So i guess i need to know WHERE to get one, and HOW to set it up.

the setup will be: 2 MTX 1501d amps pushing 2 Alpine Type X 12" subs in a 4cube@30hz box (if that helps) I have an EQX i'm selling. Can i make that work as one? I have no fckin clue. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

You might get away without one, you haven't listened to it yet? It's better to get one to be safe, but tuning so low, you might be alright unless you listen to a lotta jeezy and chopped and screwed music.

General rule of thumb is to run your subsonic filter 10hz below your tuning frequency. But, you usually have to play around with it.

My Kicker 750.1 had one that was not adjustable, it was 25hz from the factory. That sucked because my box was tuned at 28hz, so I was not grabbing the lows I wanted, had to end up leaving it off and being careful about what I played through the subwoofer.

Hard to say where to get an external one, alot of external crossovers have them built in, (my Memphis didnt //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif ) however, most of the Audiocontrol crossovers had them, (2x, 3x).

This is your unit correct? http://www.audiocontrol.com/t34/5248/14162/Trunk-Mount-Equalizers/EQX-Trunk-Mount-Equalizer-with-Crossover.html

According to that it had a SSF built in to the unit, like other Audiocontrol units. Stock its set a 33hz, but you can buy another unit from them with the hz you want to set it at. They call it the Programmable Frequency Match module.

Go to the link I provided, and download the manual and it will be explained better.

I feel you, but like I said, it has one built in, you just have to purchase the module for it that will work with your setup.

For example, if I was doing something with a 32hz tune, I would look for a module around 20-22hz. That gives your subs the protection they need without sacrificing your lows too much.

you wanna set my shit up then? lol
how do i know what it has already?

I can homie would not be an issue, and I know its in there because I read the manual.

I was looking at the EQX a while ago, just went a different route. Looking to find the modules online, I know Kens use to sell them, but dont T&T now sell Audiocontrol? If so, they should have it as well, they cheap $10 I believe, but I have not checked on them in years.

where is that located on the unit? there's a gut pic of it in my sale/trade thread

edit: here

I would have to have it in my hand, but according to the manual, the PFM module, the PFM bypass, the ground selector, and the crossover module are all right together.

My Four1 had all its labeled under there you could just see each and what they were for. Like I said, going by the manual, I would have to have it in my had to point it out.

basically the PFM sets the floor for the lowest freq that will pass thru to the amp? ya?
i'm gonna call audiocontrol anywaiz

Exactly, it acts as an SSF for the unit. Instead of being able to turn a knob to adjust it to what frequency you want, you use modules that are preset to a specific frequency that Audiocontrol sells.
