SSD 12 Review

As many may know I got a free SSD 12 from Scott (i believe that is his real name) and the purpose was to basically kill the sub. Well, on music, I couldn't. I nearly clipped the dog out of the MD3 and nothing. I even busted a whole in the surround during installation. This sub sounds better and louder than my two pioneers did. I am not sure why, but I am pretty sure it was an install issue.

I really like this sub....and may actually buy another as I thought I needed 15s to get louder. The box is 2.5@33 hertz. 36 inches of port area. 45s in the corners. Resin in all in the corners (besides the back wall)+

The only complaint I have is that on all the subs I have owned the holes where you screw it down are already punched out. That is how I busted my surround, the holes were punched out and the screwdriver slipped. Since this sub had an aesthetic problem initially, I don't know if it is 'the way it is' or they weren't punched out.

Either way, you can't really go wrong with this sub.

I will post pics of the setup if scott says it is okay.

I posted this in subwoofers instead of review so people can make comments.

What's the volume of the box before displacement?

The SSD looks like a winner when it comes to price/performance. I can't think of anything else in it's class, specs why.

I am not skilled enough to tell you.....

Here is what I did, I went to this free subwoofer box plans site by this beerdrinker fellow. Typed in the info and then build the box out of birch. I added the 45s so the actual box volume is less.

To tell you the truth, I think the reason why I am so happy because of the installation. I finally figured out how to use my router so I had smooth edges on the port and the port opening. Last time I used areoports. I stuck them on the opposite side of the box as the sub so that you could see the magnet by looking in. That was not a good idea.

Well, great job then!

Thanks...I appreciate you not bashing me for my inexperience. I look forward to going to usaci finals so I can hear what good cars sound like. I like the way mines sounds at the moment, but I think there is much better. It is kind of like is you could see only in grayscale and everyone else in color. You know color is out there and that it is better, but you can't see it. I hope this trip will open my eyes.

Also, did you notice the same thing with the mounting holes when you worked with manny's sub. I didn't know if this was normal for these types of subs or if is was part of the reason it was free.

Glad you are liking it... pretty tough little sub at that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

No, we dont pre punch the mounting holes in the surround. What many people do is simply poke the drywall screw, awl, our other sharp object you shouldnt run with, through the backside of the mounting flange through the surround. Or... like me and many others, place your hand over the surround to sacrifice a little blood if the screwgun slips.

Thanks,

Scott

Didn't you predrill the holes before screwing in the screws? Screwdrivers ftmfl //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif.

Glad to hear ya liked it.

If ya ever wanna get rid of it...I'd be glad to give ya what you paid for it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

All the other subs had holes in the surrounds. The gasket moved and I couldn't line it up if you get what I'm saying. Now that I know more about what to expect I won't repeat the mistake.

And now that I know a single 12 can be loud enough daily for me, I am not so sure about the rl-p 15s.

he means blow with an amp not give head to it showrides //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif Looks like FI is the new Aire Brahma/RE XXX/Alpine Type AAAARRRRRRHHHHH.
