again you haven't worked with it or else you would realize it isn't that messy. so how can it be lame if you never used and know how effective it is?

Im confused as what to do.

The reason I was aiming for spectrum, is because it is only $39 a gallon right now, and I was hoping to get by with just one MAYBE two gallons.

Will this stuff not help?

I'm with iceteebone here...it works great, there is no reason not to use it.

The only thing I like to use mats for is the doors, for the simple reason it's not as messy as liquid. For everything else I like to use liquid. It's easier and takes less time to put on. Anything you don't want it on just take a few mins and tape off that area. I've used SS Damplifer, Damplifer Pro, Spectrum, Sludge and many other mat and liquid deadeners. The Sludge worked great, just as good if not better than SS mats in everyway. I pretty much fully deadend my car with Sludge, Damplifer, Overkill and Rattlepad. I have almost no rattles in my car, the only ones I do have is from the stock spoiler on the hatch of the car... and the latch that holds the hatch locked.

Theres a difference in purposes between liquid and mat deadener?

I mean even the SS site says:

"When applied in equal thickness, our liquid damper, Spectrum, is cheaper, better, and lighter than any other mat on the market. Not only will our liquid damper Spectrum kill more vibrations than extreme and expert level mats, but it will also absorb and reflect more airborne sound and unwanted noise. "

Doesnt that mean spectrum is better?

And if I do go spectrum, what I really need to know is, do I need one or two gallons for just my trunk?

i would have to say mat also. i have both in my car and will say sludge is easier to install, but didn't cut down on rattles as much as the mat. and as far as smell, the sludge had a much worse and longing odor than the mat.

But notice that they don't say "better than all mats", they say "better than other mats", implying simply mats from other companies. It's a sales pitch. Everybody always says ours is better than theirs.

Like I said....I just got done making a decision myself. And through the research I conducted, it was the general consensus among those smarter and more experienced than myself that for vibration/resonance dampening, you are better off using butyl mat compared to liquid.

Not saying liquid doesn't have it's place. It certainly does. But IMHO for the purpose you intend on using it for, you would be better off with mat.
