SQL comparable to a Mag?

Because unless you're going to be spending a lot of time listening to reference material, the Mags most likely won't be worth the extra money for you. Output wise, I've seen it go either way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Makes sense to go with the cheaper driver that has just as much output potential, depending on the installation.

Okay I see what your saying, but what do you mean by reference material? I listen to mostly rap, so I know I wont notice a big SQ difference listening to that, but I also listen to rock every now and then, some TOOL, Korn, Chevelle, Nirvana, Metallica, and my girlfriend loves country, so I do need the sub to be able to keep up with everything and play all kinds of music. Will the Q be able to do that for me? My xxx didnt really play rock well, it was in a large ported enclosure and rolled off pretty quickly.

But i guess the more important question for me, and probably the deciding factor, which will give me more low end ouput if powered around RMS rating, and placed in a properly sized ported enclosure tuned to 30Hz.

Ever wonder if that's your problem instead of the xxx? No subs going to have amaingly high output at higher frequencies if you tune low, in a larger box to boot. Overall your output is as much a function of the box as it is the sub.

oh no I know that was my problem as well, thats why i said it was in a large ported enclosure, 4.5ft^3 tuned to 33Hz, it played the lows AMAZING but it still dropped off pretty quickly, I know I could have put it in a different application and I might not have had this problem, but then again I would probably sacrifice some on the lows.

But I hear the Q and the Mag dont roll off as quickly, even if they are ported and tuned relatively low (around 33Hz). So really I was asking, will I suffer this same drop off with the Q, if its ported tuned to 33Hz. And how the lows compare between the Mag and the Q.

Either would do fine for groundpounding probably. The Mags can groundpound better than most other woofers I've used. But my music tastes are extremely diverse. Not only do I enjoy the good ground pound every now and agian I listen to a wide variety of reggae, from DeeJaying to Ska. I also listen to a good ammount of rock from different eras. Then there are a select few bands/singers from other genre's that I listen to. For me I wasnt going to risk any loss in SQ by going to the Q's. If my music tastes where what they where 3-4 years ago when I though all new rock was Emo and before I really started to listen to raeggae all the time I would have opted for the Q's simply because it doesnt matter what the toneal quality is when the subwoofer is only produceing one or two sinewaves on top of eachother at a time.

However, right now for the price of a mag I will STILL reccomend the mag if it's coils fit an amp you are looking at using because your music preference may change after the first few months of grounpounding. When I first got my Avalanche in all I did was blast rap, then I matured quickly as I got sick of monotone beats all of the time. Some people wont change diversity like I did, others may. For the price right now I deffanitely say Mag no matter what.

Gti's perform better than both imo. Its a woofer that doesnt get mentioned around this forum, but is one of the best out there.

I think Im just going to go with the Mags for the simple fact I wont ever be able to get them at this price again, and Im sure they will satisfy me. It may cost me a little more, but its up to me whether thats worth it or not, and I have the money, so thats not an issue. Although my listening tastes arent quite as diverse as yours (CBFryman), I still do like to throw in some different tunes, like I mentioned earlier. Plus, when other ppl ride in the car and like different music, I dont want to lose anything by switching to country, or classic rock (which my dad loves), or new rock, or techno, just whatever it is.

What testing/exprence have you done with the GTi and Magnum and Q if you've used it?

What testing has ANYONE else done...

A LOT of regurgitation is going on in this thread, from people who have NEVER experienced a lot of the woofers in question.

If you can spend the money... and wait... get the Mag. If you'd like to save ~$75-100 then get the Q. You will NOT be disappointed with the Q.

I would never make comments on something ive never heard;) As for the jbls, I was a jbl dealer for a good while, so Ive had a good deal of experience with them. As for the other woofers, I have friends locally that own both, and have done testing in some various boxes. All woofers are great none the less.
