SQ still not up to par.

Guys, please this is not a debate about what sub sounds best or whatever the hell. The point is that just because this sub may not be a show stopper doesn't mean it should sound like horse ****. There should be some level of performance and it is not there. I bought all my initial equipment used...which led to em buy all new equipment...which is going to lead to buying all used equipment again. I should have never bothered with this stuff. My budget was $500, that has obviously ballooned and I will not be spending any more money on this venture.

I will adjust input to 1v, bass boost to zero. Looks like this bass boost thing has been causing the sq, scratch that, improper operation.

I would like to add that despite this debating about subs I do really appreciate all of your help.

What I'm telling you is the Type-Rs sound like crap in sealed boxes. Plain and simple. No matter what settings you use on your HU, although setting them (and your gains) correctly is the first step. You need a sub that will perform well in a box that size...and actually that box is kinda big for a sealed 12. Unless it's 1.25 for both?

wonderful... absolutely wonderful. So get a smaller ported box then...thats the solution? I simply cannot not afford to buy a different pair of subs...this is getting way out of hand.

Just make a proper ported enclosure and you and your "sq" will be happy and on par. Cheap, simple, idiotproof.

so you have 2 12" type-rs in a gross 1.25 sealed enclosure off 900watts? If im understanding this correctly that's your problem. More than any other type of speaker, subwoofer performance is dependant upon the install. I didnt see anywhere in the thread, did you mention what exactly the problem is with the "sq."

k u buy ur spl sub
I'm definitely not a SPL guy. quite the opposite. I just facepalmed when I saw these posts.Cruser, im pretty sure your the same guy that is on diyma too... haven't you seen any of the posts that talk about this in much more detail..

The sub woofer is the least important speaker in the system, distortion is high in all large speakers, its just the physics of them. Manufactures can take steps to reduce the distortion but overall it just really does not equate to an audible difference so long as the sub is ran in within its specs and properly setup. Im just saying subs don't sound like sh**t, its the install that causes s**tty sound.

I apologize to the op, just trying to help you out.

sorry perfecxionx, I didn't go into detail a bout the issue because I had started a thread with the same problem a few weeks ago.

The issue is that at mid volume I am getting very unclean bass. Actually it sounds much like when two slightly out of tune notes are playing right next to eachother which produces a wah wah effect. Essentially it sounds bumpy. Also they are not loud...I don't really want really loud bass, when I turn my music up I want the full spectrum of sound but with my music loud my subs aren't even as loud as my speakers and on top of that they sound ******.

while you hardly have an ideal enclosure, you still seem to be describing something more related to a mechanical/electrical problem. There aren't really a lot of knowledgeable people here at ca.com anymore so id suggest trying diymobileaudio.com/forum. maybe some one there is familiar with the problem your expereincing, or can point you in the direction of a better woofer for your application

just so you know, you can add a properly sized block of wood to the inside of the box to reduce its internal volume. so you don't need to buy a new box..
He does if it's a sealed..... Type Rs hate sealed enclosures, and why would he need to buy one when he can make one for cheaper and to his specs?

great point smartasss. Thanks for the tip! I suppose I may attempt building a box. It would be really useful to know how so what the heck! It's gonna have to wait unfortunately. I am very busy during the semester.

Very true! This is where i've been hanging out for the past 2 years before I joined ca.com to help these guys here.

sounds like a electrical phase issue.. how do you have the subs terminals wired?

how do i have them wired? I've got the voice coils wired in series for 4ohm. The amp has 2+ posts and 2- posts and as the manual states if you put two 4ohm loads on seperate posts the amp will see 2ohms. So thats how I have them wired.
