this is what I was talking about. electrical phase.. if you have one terminal wired wrong you will have cancellation.. not complete cancellation but it will have the effect you are describing..if they are its not by much and I don't see where a phase shift could occur. The only possible phase shift would be a 180 due to improper polarity but that would cause almost complete cancellation. Maybe thats just how noise sounds on a sub because of its low frequencies
Welcome to car audio.wonderful... absolutely wonderful. So get a smaller ported box then...thats the solution? I simply cannot not afford to buy a different pair of subs...this is getting way out of hand.
I agree that every sub should sound good, and a crappy install will make them sound like crap.I'm definitely not a SPL guy. quite the opposite. I just facepalmed when I saw these posts.Cruser, im pretty sure your the same guy that is on diyma too... haven't you seen any of the posts that talk about this in much more detail..
The sub woofer is the least important speaker in the system, distortion is high in all large speakers, its just the physics of them. Manufactures can take steps to reduce the distortion but overall it just really does not equate to an audible difference so long as the sub is ran in within its specs and properly setup. Im just saying subs don't sound like sh**t, its the install that causes s**tty sound.
I apologize to the op, just trying to help you out.
Try to keep gains down =/Bass boost is 0db, sw volume is max and bass gain is pretty high. No improvement. I will be looking into a ported box. Thanks guys.

whats the volume turned up to on the deck?? and whats the max??Bass boost is 0db, sw volume is max and bass gain is pretty high. No improvement. I will be looking into a ported box. Thanks guys.
this....... your bass should always be set below even with everything else. i start with it all the way down, adjust everything else, and then turn it up, as needed. if your deck distorts from bass, it sends that same signal to the amp. for newb costomers/friends, i leave room in the adjustments for them to turn the bass up, though.Bass boost is 0db, sw volume is max and bass gain is pretty high.
