Most remastered or remixed cd's are worse for sq. Most early 90's cd's had really good sq with a large dynamic range. Since about 2000 all they do is try to make everything as loud as possible, but in the process lose the previous dynamic range.

These 2 example should show you how different a song can sound just from the advances of recording. The first is the older version that sounds crunchy and bright, the second is a much later recorded version which sounds much fuller and smooth.
