The owner of this 2003 Lexus ES300 approached us here at Performance Audio with a simple request. He wanted a car that would place at 2008 USACI World Finals. Always up for a challenge, we told him that award-winning installs were nothing new to us and we were eager to get started.
We removed the factory dash and constructed a new one, using all the factory safety equipment and mounting points. The new dash is more stylish and is symmetrical, giving the listener a perfect sound stage whether seated in the driver's seat or the passenger's seat. Using a Clarion head unit, Hybrid Audio mids and highs, JL Audio subwoofers, and Zapco amplifiers, the sound quality we have been able to achieve is stunning.
To help keep all of the Zapco equipment in the trunk cool, a ventilation system was installed that pulls cool air from the interior of the vehicle and funnels it through two fans in the rear deck to the trunk compartment. An air outlet was also installed in the trunk to vent possible fumes from the batteries located in the trunk.
The Zapco amplifiers are mounted on racks in the trunk and are force-cooled by fans that direct the cool air from the interior of the vehicle onto the amplifers' heatsinks. A custom battery tray is located on the floor of the trunk, featuring a motorized custom cover that can be remotely opened and closed.
