SQ and rap?

IT is kinda repetitive but he's got some great tracks. Sage & Eyedea are a lil too out there for me sometimes, but they've also got some good tracks (crack pipes and paradise //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif )
Slug is TIGHT.

If you like them you'd probably like the cunning lynguists, Binary Star, Brother Ali, Apathy, Jean Grae, Louis Logic, WordsWorth, Tonedeff, and other folks i can't think of at the moment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
ali's tight, so is tonedef, never listened to jean grae.

backpacker hiphop FTW, IT, sage francis, eyedea (before he went emo), aesop rock, anyone else in atmosphere, you get the idea..... Pretty much the only hip hop I'll listen to, except for really older stuff, roots, krs-one.
krs-one is sickk

"SQ" subs are not as desired for rap for two reasons:
1. Rap music is not as dynamic; tone, timbre, etc. is not as important for rap either.

2. The type of people who listen to rap have no taste in music in the first place.

chances are your basing your opinion on the "rap" you hear on your local radio station.

he is still right, 99% of the music out there, especially what's easily available DOES follow that stereotype.

x2

listen to the track "Just Blaze, Bleek and Free" and tell me any old sub can reproduce that bassline perfectly.

edit:

he is still right, 99% of the music out there, especially what's easily available DOES follow that stereotype.
you could say that about most genres that you hear on the radio.

how can you say 99% of music out ther follows the stereotype?

there is no way possible that 99% of any music follows a certain stereo type

when it comes down to it.. most of you guys are just plain out closed minded.

You guys are to funny.

I listen to some hip hop myself, to me its all about the SQ.

Have you ever seen a rap artist perform live on a t.v show ?

Do you see the acoustical instruments in the back.....tell me thats electronic.

Just about every song out there has the same bass line. To say rap is repetitive is very ignorant.

I meant 99% of the rap on the radio, turn it on and you'll find most of the songs ARE bass heavy synthesized baselines, I listen to mostly non-stream hip-hop, so I'm not ignorant, I do know that that's not all that out there, but it is most of what the average person thinks of when they think "rap" and for good reason. The genre has been degraded some, like it or not, it's not getting any better due to the krunk explosion either.

Basically, when someone says "rap" isnt' good for SQ, they ARE referring to krunk and mainstream ganster rap that is 99% of what's on the radio right now. And in that respect, they are right, it isnt' SQ oriented at all. That doesn't mean that's all that's out there, but the point remains.

Ok, the reason people say rap and SQ don't go together is that usually for a really nice SQ setup your sub is set to go from about 20-50 Hz where most rap music has it's base around 60-120 Hz. The setup usually doesn't lend itself to handle both. Now I enjoy rap, I do have 2 ported 15's afterall, but SQ is how my system was built. I have multiple settings on my EQ that allows me to take my SQ setting and adjust for sub frequencies. I now have a competition and street beats settings. Also, most people that do SPL and who do have a tendency towards rap (might as well make use of the subs) love the amount of bass they can get out of SPL subs. They usually have a longer excursion and can take more abuse before they give up. The higher end SQ subs can't take high SPL or they will blow. It's the difference between a quick and responsive sub and one that will shake all day long. I'm sorry if this was mentioned before, but I didn't feel like reading the middle 5 pages.
