Spray painted sub =bad sound?

I got an older style 12 type R for free but someone painted the front of the subwoofer with spray paint including the rubber surround ect. pretty much everything visible when the sub is in a box.. so anyway my question is will this effect the sound or should I use it?

I would never spray paint a cone, your adding more moving mass, I would say it effects it quite a bit.
