SPL #'s on JL w7's

The LMS drivers I have seen all have ~38mm or so Xmax, that is more displacement than a W7. Like you said, the old XXX is pretty much dead on to the XXX. The only thing is I believe the XXX and LMS may have lower distortion on something like a Klippel test, however at the distortion levels we are talking about it does become negligible.
But overall, yes, I 100% agree with you, the W7 is an amazing driver and is one of the holy grails of sub design, high excursion, low distortion and also very well know. If I had the money it is possible I would run a W7, but I am far from having enough money to run one.
that 38mm xmax is total. my 10w7 is 23mm one way. (46mm total)

the 12 and 13w7" are even more.

this made no sense to me.... what exactly are you trying to say???
I wanted to say my 2 type r's out performed the 2 w7's by FAR. I hate when someone is talking to you when you are trying to do something sorry for the confusion. I am just going to stay with my type r's unless something else comes along & I try those out.

No, the 38mm was 1 way BL @ 70% (and 30mm 1 way BL @ 99%). The LMS-5400 (and LMS-Ultra) has substantially more, and better, throw than the W7's. The W7 is still great, though.

That is exactly what I was thinking, but wasn't 100% sure.

LMS-U has 38? The W7 is 34 iirc and I was thinking the LMS was about the same.

I forget why we are even discussing xmax figures...? Some really stupid reason no doubt.

The W7 with the most is the 13W7 at 32mm.

Keep in mind also that the LMS-Ultra was available in 15" and 18" sizes, so regardless you're sweeping a ton more volume than the W7.

My mistake. I dont know why I was thinking it had more. I guess the excessively larger xmech always makes lean towards thinking more excursion potential out of the thing. Just... not linear. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

If Type R's beat them "by FAR", yes there had to be something wrong with it. Are you really suggesting Alpine's mid level subs are better than what has been known to be the no-holds-barred subwoofer benchmark in car audio for almost the past decade?

I like how dasinde91 asks if he should trade the type r's for w7's..

he gets one good answer.

then a bunch of fvcktards come in here and clusterfvck this thread to 12 pages, pulling in a bunch of different subs, which don't even deal with the op's question.
