SPL Meter

i think it gets very innacurate above 130dB, that's why we need correction numbers //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yeah, i just went and picked one up, and i can verify that they're totally inconsistent and should be regarded as trash //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

a while back i had two (cheap) pioneer 12's (these) in 1.25 cu ft (each) sealed with only about 125W going to each of them, and i got a scosche meter and it said 128.X with music.

now i have two assassin 12's in a ported box with 400W+ to each of them (same car) and i bought another scosche meter (i returned the first one), and this one maxed out at 123.6 This is the best I could do with -3dB test tones (peaked at 40Hz), but I got the exact same score with track 1 on young jeezy's cd (it peaks around 40Hz, but is recorded much lower than -3dB) and by blowing into the mic (//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif).

i think even if we did get correction numbers they'd only be valid for that particular unit, due to the inconsistency of the product.

this is also confirmed in another post:

as for the BOOM STICK, i've used 2 differnt ones and they both were totally differnt on #'s. 1st stick would stay constant around 153 and the 2nd Boom stick would only stay constant around 143.....

One of the better meters you can get without having to purchase a laptop for a termlab is the goldline. It hovers in the $450 range and is still overall cheaper than a termlab (if you consider laptop and TL price together of course)

I tested it against the TL and found it read 1 db higher

how do you like eu-700 i had a set and never played with them ended up selling them. whats the specs on that enclosure?
I love the EU-700's! The box is a built to ED's design. It is 1f3^ and ported to 30hz.

To all that are saying BS.. The point of this thread is the mic. I believe that the moc is not as accurate as the tl but I did not spoof on what it was reading. (I do not believe I am hitting almost 130db but I have no access to a TL where I am in Germany. After I pulled that reading I did stick the mic in the port with the same song and pulled a 132. but of course that is not a reading like I was trying to get.

it is in this car

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif that wal-mart thing is a piece of garbage. I doesnt measure the same way a TL Takes it readings. A TL is a pressure sensor....this Scoche thing measures noise. If you dont believe me....do this yell at a TL and see what it does...notta. Yell at the boomstick and it will give you a reading. Hell The other day I was in walmart and I did a 110 by just thumping the fawking thing. Comparing a Term-lab to a 20 dollar POS is an insult.
