Are there any other type of materials used for spiders? Have any of our member builders tried any other materials or designs? Comment on any your tried, fail or not...

The only "different" spider design I've seen is the one that was on the Adire Parthenon.

I've seen split spiders, but they are the same folded fabric as typical, simply segmented. Has anyone tried some type of elastic/rubber material?

Pioneer uses a surround as the spider... I believe it is santoprene or rubber... could be foam, though. Quite a few of their drivers now use this in place of a cloth spider.

Spiders can also be made from metal and plastics.

I believe most cloth spiders are cotton, but nomex spiders also exist.. perhaps a few other materials too..

As far as design the parthenon is quite different; and I recall one sub (which may have just been a prototype) that used a linear bearing in place of a spider.
