Poor college student
First I should mention that I have always had a strange problem with my car's system. I should also mention that I did not install the head unit and never got a chance to check all of the wiring. But when I got the car, one of the rear speakers was wired out of phase, so I do doubt the competency of whoever installed it. My strange problem is that my speakers occasionally "clip out" at even moderate volumes. This seems to happen much more often in warm weather. Some days I can crank it up very loud and no clipping or distortion at all. Other times, they will "stutter" at moderate levels and won't stop until I turn it really quiet and then back up.
However, I am pretty sure that this "stuttering" does not affect the RCA outs which go to my sub. The sub keeps playing. There is no error message on the HU either, which is a cheap Pioneer unit. The aftermarket speakers are inexpensive, I'm not even going to mention brands. I'm poor, haha.
Here's the main problem:
Last night my stereo was doing a lot of this stuttering. I was adjusting stuff like the eq and loudness and stuff but nothing really helped. I got into my car this morning to drive to work...and now only my sub works. I can hear the thumping...but no speakers at all. I haven't had time to get the DMM out, so no testing on the speaker wires has been done yet. I'm still at work right now.
I should mention that it was extremely foggy last night and this morning. Very humid, and it is getting warmer now too.
My instincts tell me that I might have a bad ground or something of that nature. I just find it really strange that the HU operates, sends a signal to the sub, has no error messages, but none of the 4 speakers work at all.
Anyone ever experienced this? Thanks for any input
