Speakers sound like crap?

Sounds like you need to learn how to tune your system. Also, alot of speakers need a little bit of time to be broken in. When I installed my comps, I was not able to push them very hard at first. After learning how to tweak everything in my head unit and amp (including the crossovers) it seems that I can keep pushing my comps harder and harder with no distortion. Take your car for a ride and learn how to tune things. Your components will NOT get loud unless they are crossed over. In fact, its likely that you will blow your tweets without them.
His comps won't get loud because they don't have enough power. They will get loud just fine if he hooked up the correct amount of power on an amp without a crossover. Will the speakers likely blow from attempting to reproduce sounds they are not capable of? Yes.

Whats a cheap but good amp that does something like 100 X 2?
What set of CDT's are you running? I'm giving my CL61A's 150w rms and they love it.

get the CA600 on top for a little headroom, 150x2 at 4 ohms and 450w x 1 at 4 ohms all for $65. Your CDTs will probably take all 150w per side anyway

I got a refurb from there and it is in almost perfect condition, you cant even tell its been used until you get like an inch away from it

cant beat that
