speakers sound better with amp?

will running my door speakers off an amp actually make them sound better than my aftermarket head unit...I have all 4 alpine type s ..they dont need a lot of power...(the guy before me did all this crap not me)I want to switch them to run off my head unit and run an amp to power 2 12s not all my speakers...should I ditch the 6 channel amp?

i dunno if it'll make them sound better, but they'll probably get louder with an amp feeding power to them instead of a HU
