speakers randomly pop when HU is turned on/off

A very small isolated town called Winona Missouri. 180 miles south of stl. This whine noise never happened when I had my old amp hooked to my sub, only when I switched it out for the pyramid to power my door speakers. Would an amp alone cause this problem?
