speakers randomly pop when HU is turned on/off

I researched a bit MIT and was told this was likely a ground issue on my head unit. But only one speaker pops so that would be ruled out. I checked my connections one more and on the speaker and its fine. What else could it be?

I recently had the same problem. My music would cut out, and i could here a loud pop, and some static sometimes. I had checked all my wires, and they looked good. It wasnt untill I pulled my sub out of the box, that I found the problem. One of the terminals for one of the coils had come loose, and the leads were making contact with the basket randomly. I secured it best I could, but it happened again, so I wasn't sure if that was the cause or not at that point. I took out the sub a second time, and wrapped electrical tape around each of the leads to insulate them, and then securing it as I had done the first time. It's been at least 4 days now, without a problem, so I think that was the cause. Your problem has to be similar to mine, but you have to find where its shorting or the bad connection is. Im sure its something stupid, cause I know that I didn't expect to find my problem inside my sub box. It took me like 3 days to figure it out, but I dont have much time to mess with it. Hope you find it soon though, and good luck to ya.

Checked all 4 door speakers, all wired fine. No stray wires are shorting out there. Wires are fine at the harness. Checking to see if amp speaker terminals are touching each other now. No popping noises now, there is now no sound at all. Not even static or interference.

RCA's are good. Rca terminals both good on amp and stereo. Channels on amp and head unit are good. I don't see any signs of wires shorting out. Complete mystery to me as of right now. Don't want to have to spend 30 bucks in gas ( I live rural in southern Missouri) just to drive to the nearest audio shop to have it checked out if its as simple as it seems.

Edit : put leads on my speaker wires going to my amp, still nothing. Going to start singling out speakers one by one to remove all factors.

Either you need more juice.. Like another alternator and or battery. I ran into that when I got my saz 3500 in. Just tested it grand had pops when powered up and turned off. I got a second batt and alt and it magically went away.

Also could be a bad ground on a lot of things. Amp. Battery ground. Rca ground.

Could be the head unit it self.

Also if it's only doing it when turned off or on. Look up a PAC remote trigger relay. It delays the time for the remote start to the amp. Which will help with the popping on and off.

Also. If you have a short anywhere in the system the speakers will cut in and out. And eventually that could result in failure of the amp.

Are the speaker wires factory speaker wires or did you run them your self? The protective cover around the wire could've worn and have the smallest amount of wire making a ground to the chassi some where between the amp and speakers.

Once I singled out the speakers, wiring straight from the speakers voice coil to the wires on my stereos wire harness( skipping the stock wiring and wire harness) and all 4 channels worked. I then wire the same speaker straight to the amp and it worked. Must be a short in the factory wiring.

However! Even though this problem has pretty much been solved, I know get a constant thimp, every half second from my speakers. I lower my gain on my amp and it goes away so I lowered it. 40w nominal watts on my 6 by 8s. Pyramid gold series pb600 (could be wrong on model name) 75x2 4 ohm amp

I set my gains by ear, but as of now I have it set to halfway between 1v and 500mv. 1v is the lowest setting on the amp, my other old Sony lowest setting is 6v. Odd.

When I turn my volume down to 0, my speakers pop. There is also now a very loud high pitched whine when my vehicle is on. Was never there before.

The real reason for your pop is lack of DELAY from your HU in turning it on and off. You will need this PAC TR7 for more programed delay time

I'll look into that, would that fix my high pitched whining noise?
I'm not sure it would cure your mechanical induced noise because that would be a different subject from your initial problem. Giving your amps some delay time would cure your pops, it has nothing to do with a bad ground. If it were a bad ground then it would continue making all sorts of noises while it's operating because of poor power contact. With your noise issue, try placing a 0ga ofc cable from the mounting bolt of your alternator to the negative post of your primary battery. Then from battery post to your firewall (even better directly to your dash where your HU is mounted. I'm not saying this will clear your noise issue but it would surely help. I'm sure you know grounding the negative side of your RCA (HU) to bare metal also seems to work. I know 100% that going optical will help clear the noise because there is no electrical connection between your HU and what ever is next in the signal path, going digital in short.
