Speakers just started cutting out?

This just happened today.

My deck is an Alpine 9853. Speakers and 4ch amp are both matched at 50w RMS per ch. Same as it was in my past two cars, and worked fine. Basically, all of a sudden the music cut out and I could not hear anything coming from the speakers (I COULD hear the sub) at a volume above 12 or so (scale of 0-35) I only hear the sub.

Any ideas on where I can start investigating this problem? I checked the amp and it looks fine. The HU has been having a few minor problems for the past 2 weeks or so, but never this major. How would I go about finding out WHAT is causing this? Is there anything I can do to check if it is indeed the HU causing this problem?

I don't think it's anything electrical since the sub works fine at all volume levels, but I'm not sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

i had this problem with two different decks, but i was sending power to my speakers with it, not another amp... if your amping all of your speakers and still not getting any sound sometimes, it is either your rca's or your amp...

Actually it is working today and I don't know why. I pushed all the RCAs and wires in last night and made sure they were all snug, then tried it and it didn't work. Then woke up today and it works fine...

Amp overheating perhaps?

Yes the speakers are amped up with an external, not the HU amp.
