Speakers for my Fraternity House

I know this is a car audio forum, but I figured yalls knowledge wasn't necessarily limmited to car audio. So, I'm not on a strict budget but lets keep things reasonable. I was thinking a 2-4 speaker system, I have no amp to go off of but I was thinking around 1000 wats per speaker. Feel free to give any input. It's a 1000 square foot room if that helps at all. Thanks in advance

check out http://www.htfr.com it's technically a record store but they're having some killer deals on active (powered) monitors and monitor/amp combos. they're a big supplier of dj equipment so everything they sell will get very loud. for 1000 square feet i'd look to the 350-500w range and add a sub if you typically pack out the place.

1000watts per speakerX4 speakers in a 1000 sqt ft room =**** thats going to be loud
Yeah well that is indeed the intention... but I think we'll start with two for now and progress to four if need be... I'm thinking a minimum of 2000 wats for sure though

2k watts in pro audio is a lot different than 2k in car audio... remember that. we had 2k at the last party we threw and even with over 200 people there it was almost deafening. honestly i think 1000 with a powered sub would be more than sufficient. also parts express sells awesome equipment. i'd definitely consider that.

Have you ever heard a 4kW home setup?

Have you budgeted for the extra 220VAC line you'll have to run to provide that kind of current?

Feel free to give any input.
Think smaller...think more efficient.

If it were me, I'd be using Altec 811 or 511 horns with compression drivers, and B&C 12" or 15" midbasses. Actively bi-amped with QSC amplifiers - maybe 30 watts per horn, 150-200W per midbass.

The only home speakers I know of that really want as much power as you're talking about are full-size Magneplanars or electrostats, and neither of those are what I'd call good "party" speakers.
