Speaker Wiring Question

I have a 2 channel Rockford Fosgate amp that at 4 oms wired in paralell it puts out about 60 watts rms and at 2 ohms wired in paralell puts out 120 watts rms. The component speakers im looking at getting says to about 70 watts to them. So is there any way that i could wire the speakers to put a 4 ohm load on the amp. Or do you think that the speakers could handle the 120 watts? Suggestions needed.

What amplifier (exact model) do you have ?

What speakers (how many, what brand and model) do you have ?

The amp is a Rockford Fosgate (Punch x250.2). I couldn't find anything about it on their web site but on the back of the amp it says 62.5 x 2 watts rms into 4 ohms. and 125 x 2 watts rms into 2 ohms.

I dont have the speakers but the ones im looking at getting are these http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/3406

My question is should i wire these speakers parallel to amp or find some speakers with a higher rms rating?

How many of those component sets are you getting?

Because if you are only getting one set, then there is no parallel wiring needed. It's simply one crossover to each channel, resulting in a 4ohm load per channel.

If you are getting two sets, and you wire them two sets in parallel to one amplifier channel, then each set will only get 62.5w...which is below their rated RMS power handling.

I'm only getting one set. So let me see if i understand you correctly. When the amp says 62.5 watts into 4 ohms thats only for one of the channels. so if i wire one of the 4 ohm crossovers to one channel and the other crossover to the other channel there will be a 4 ohm load on the amp?

4ohm load on each channel, yes. Resulting in the amplifier delivering 62.5w of output per channel (why they rated the amplifier down to the 1/2 watt is beyond me).

And the crossovers aren't 4ohm, the speakers wired through the crossover net a nominal 4ohm load. Semantics, you're probably thinking. But not really. Just want to be sure you aren't confused.

The "crossover" isn't 4ohms.

Each woofer, and each tweeter, is individually 4ohms.

But the crossover itself isn't that impedance...the combination of the two speakers wired through the crossover to the amplifier results in that nominal impedance being presented to the amplifier.

Haven't heard them, and haven't heard much about them.

But PG's speaker offerings aren't anything special. And considering you're only spending $55 on a set of components, I wouldn't hold an extraordinary amount of high hopes for them.
